40.

Left to our own voices
hammer or mallet
tin sheers aluminum whispers
              Everyone stealing teenagers
                                                       it happened in the
hospital
                             then left out when played
passionately
                                 the sense of extremity
                                 as a target

A band of head phones
on the counter enabling
again nothing was said
admitting no sadness
as weakness
following rock and roll as
a contemporary theological discourse

                              Growing through the roof
               braces in the afternoon
                        orange leaders
       don’t work in underwater
                        crime schools with
                       a list of frightening errands

Lashed to a source
                    Everything that’s true

Paved to a purpose
fax the eyes in fox gloves
toes tucked in new boots stomping
marble into marble leaf
eye sky machine puffing
oxygen on almost every corner
